VOXFIRE SINGS ANCIENT LANGUAGES WITH A MODERN TWIST

There is an amazing new album (FONTIS) by the remarkable group VOXFIRE comprised of three female soprano vocalists and two male musicians (who primarily play piano, trombone, saxophone, synthesizer, harmonica and percussion). This vocal group sounds unique because they sing hundred-year-old lyrics in ancient languages from Europe’s Middle Ages. The music is part old-time classical, part world-fusion and part eclectic new age and avant-garde. Bottom-line, the music is absolutely mesmerizing. The vocals are so old-school, they could just as easily be wordless vocalizing, but, regardless, the harmonies are tight and the singing often sounds like you are in an old towering stone cathedral. There is one all-instrumental tune, “Laudemus II.” This is music to fill your dreams along with visions of knights in shining armor, fair maidens or damsels in distress, or princes and princesses at royal court. Background on each tune including lyric translations are available at the group’s website.
