Flygod

Flygod

With a piercing, high-strung cadence and an arsenal of onomatopoeic gun sounds, this Buffalo MC evokes the halcyon days of mid-'90s thug rap. He also has the score to match: A drunken trumpet loops throughout “Chine Gun,” vinyl crackles for “Gustavo,” and ominous piano rings over punchy bass drums on “Shower Shoe Lords.” Gunn pays homage to antiheroes like Mexican drug lord Joaquín Guzmán (“Free Chapo”), drops bars about pistol-whippings alongside Action Bronson (“Dudley Boyz”), and, true to his name, uses the 18 guest-packed tracks of his debut to leave behind a lyrics-powered crime wave.
