If there’s one thing the most prominent members of the Griselda crew (Westside Gunn, Conway the Machine, Benny The Butcher) don’t get enough credit for, it’s their ability to bring the absolute best out of guesting MCs. For Gunn’s Flygod Is an Awesome God 2—which arrived less than three months after his critically acclaimed Pray for Paris—this means scene-stealing performances from Syracuse MC Stove God Cooks (“Jose Canseco,” amongst several appearances), fellow Buffalo native and Griselda signee Armani Caesar (“Lil Cease”), and NYC’s Rome Streetz (“Steve Behr”). The billings on Flygod 2 are indeed a bit lower-profile than those on Pray for Paris, but if there’s one thing that doesn’t suffer for it, it is the quality of raps. Gunn himself sets the bar—no pun intended—with wildly imaginative quips about cooking “half a brick in an air fryer” and copping a “mansion and a speedboat” immediately following a jail stint. Additional guests on Flygod 2 include Benny the Butcher, Boldy James, and Keisha Plum, all serving as a reminder that Griselda itself is a family of stars.
