EDITORS’ NOTES

On her third full-length album, New Zealand native Jamie McDell draws inspiration from a trip to Nashville. Recorded partly in the city’s House of Blues, Extraordinary Girl doubles as a family reunion for the Chambers family, with production from Nash Chambers and guest turns from Kasey (“Tori”) and their father, Bill (“Paint on a Sign”). The scratchy, vintage charm of “A Liar Loves a Liar” has the eerie, tinny echo of old speakers, while the title track is a timeless and universal country-pop lullaby.

Wasn't Sure Who She Was, But Now I'll Never Forget

If there is artistic justice in the world, this talented Kiwi will become a Nashville star. Try "3AM" and "Under the Bonnet" for a couple of quick-hook starts, then settle in for a mostly-strong album from top to bottom. An artist to watch.
