11 Songs, 42 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

The perky songs of Jack Peñate’s debut, Matinée, captured a crossover wave in indie pop, but for Everything Is New, he and producer Paul Epworth went in search of something else. It’s a classic exploratory second record, stuffed full of influences: highlife guitars, Tropicália, disco rhythms. The musical experiments result in a dancier, more starry-eyed and euphoric Peñate, but all his new colors are kept within the lines of solidly built, heartfelt pop.

Breath in...Breath out...

I feel as though I may be writing this review a bit pre-mature. I just purchased the album and have barely made it through all of the tracks, yet, I can't help myself. Its as though I've literally taken a breath of fresh air. The lyrics are meaningful, the music is pure, but overall its the initial feeling I have as the sound waves enter my ear. So fresh and new. (Coming from an untrained ear to British pop/rock.) I heard "Tonight's Today" on Minnesota Public Radio/The Current and couldn't help but go investigate. What I found is a young new artist who has incredible talent and a refreshing sound that, at the moment, I can't get enough of. So dive in...close your eyes...listen...take a deep breath and feel the refreshing sound of Jack Penate.

Merry Christmas to me

Well, a delightful holiday present to unwrap with my ears. Excellent song styling from first to last, and delighted to hear a strong background vocal presence on several songs. When done correctly, as on this album, a positive enhancement to the overall musical offering. And having a little hint of samba on many of the songs also provides a dynamic break from the ordinary. It is nice to hear a new voice (at least to me) not try and overdo a song or lose it in the music. The lyrics shine through with a commanding sound, but do not overpower the listener. Jack creates a vibrant and winning sound, perfect for the upcoming cold dark nights of winter.

world class

i have hundreds of songs from every genre itunes has to offer so i know when i hear good music or not. THIS IS GOOD MUSIC!!!!!! not over done, smooth meaningful lyrics, and overall its an album that we all will be hearing about in the near future. bet on it!!! "Pull my heart away" should be a chart topper.....somewhere, and "everything is new" is the albums hidden gem. great buy and worth every penny. For those of you who find this boring and not 'real' music take another listen and if u still dont like it you can go back to your Miley Cyrus or fall out boy cd's.
