EDITORS’ NOTES

You can’t go wrong with a best-of collection from one of the most inventive and successful bands of the late '70s and early '80s. Apart from a new mix of "Message in a Bottle" (don't worry, the original's here too), there are no bells and whistles; you simply get the biggest hits of The Police, and you can't really complain about that. It's all here, from their forward-looking fusions of rock and reggae ("Roxanne," "Can't Stand Losing You") to more straightforward rockers (the aforementioned "Message in a Bottle"), pure pop tunes ("Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic"), and the more expansive musical palette of latter-day tracks like "Wrapped Around Your Finger" and "King of Pain."
