Lewis Watson’s debut EP, It’s Got Four Sad Songs on It BTW, attracted major-label attention; Watson decided on Warner Brothers due to its strong singer/songwriter roster, including David Gray, Damien Rice, and Neil Young. Before making a full-length album, Watson released a number of EPs to show his subtle growth from a young but mature singer to someone comfortable in the recording studio. This second EP features the English singer/songwriter swimming among choirs of backup singers on the appropriately named “Sink or Swim” and generally sounding more forceful in his delivery. Despite the EP’s title, the songs here are less "sad" than determined. “Even If” isn't the sound of a young man who’s defeated, but rather a confident new talent who has his eye on making a name for himself when the time's right. A cover of Bombay Bicycle Club’s “Lamplight” sheds light on young Watson’s influences.
