Editors’ Notes Belize-born British composer Errollyn Wallen’s three beautiful choral works soar in the acoustic bloom of the chapel at King’s College, Cambridge. The otherworldly carol “Peace on Earth” evokes the bleakness of winter through an angular organ ostinato, as the King’s trebles sing a simple melody with an unparalleled sweetness of sound. Next, “See That I Am God” sets 14th-century words by Julian of Norwich—the first woman published in the English language—and, with its blend of skittish organ and exultant voices, brings to mind the joyful soundworld of Benjamin Britten. Drawing this EP to a close is the mesmerizing “Pace.” Its intensity and emotional impact is amplified by the sad passing of King’s Director of Music Stephen Cleobury only five months after this recording.
