10 Songs, 54 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

On their first studio album in nearly a decade, symphonic metal maestros Dimmu Borgir resume their ongoing collaboration with composer Gaute Storaas, who might as well be a member of the band by now. His orchestral scores and cinematic choir arrangements dominate Eonian, giving songs like “The Unveiling,” “Interdimensional Summit,” and “Alpha Aeon Omega” an epic Game of Thrones-intro-music feel. Meanwhile, Dimmu’s black-metal roots are alive and well in the serpentine riffs and dizzying drum work of “Council of Wolves and Snakes” and “Lightbringer.”
