It starts with an about-face: the soft, Wild West ambience of "Corpus Christi Carol" soon clears the way for "Hammerhead," a blues shredder with a guitar riff big enough for a battle scene out of Mad Max. Across the album, Beck's guitar soars above strings and synthesizers, only meeting its match in Joss Stone’s howling vocals on their cover of "I Put a Spell on You."
