Doctor, Esq. ,

Very unique DEBUT album

"Eat Your Sad" sort of defies genre. It is definitely indy rock, but it also has tinges of jazz and folk in it. Even world music sounds.... Everything is very organic, and there is no fake computerized stuff in it. But there are literally around 30 different instruments across the different tunes. I hear a trumpet on one, a sitar on another, a sax and a flute, etc, etc.

Jay's voice reminds me of Tim Buckley, somewhat. It has a tremor in it sometimes, but then he also can growl the songs out, like in "Go Away" which is more raw. The lyrics are really clever and eloquent. Interesting turns of phrase. Sounds like a smart guy.

Funny that iTunes reports that the 3 most popular songs are "Nothing Inside of Me" "Excess Emissions" and "Atmosphere." That's probably because Tamar Kaprelian sings backing vocals on "Nothing Inside of Me" and she just became a big deal with a solo contract and a cd released on Interscope... and "Excess Emissions" was used in opening credits in a movie, so that makes sense. But MY FAVORITE TUNE is the rocker called "I Can See You Smile" that is left till the very last on the album.

There's a follow up album coming in 2011 called TREAT LOVE KIND that I read about on jaymatsueda.com and CAN'T WAIT TO GET !
