Easy A (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)
It makes sense for a refreshingly thoughtful teenage romance movie to be accompanied by a well thought-out soundtrack. Sweet Thing's "Change of Seasons" echoes the late '90s/early '00s cosmopolitan radio pop of Tahiti 80 setting the tone with a playful vibe before "Day One" drops some Britpop inspiration with the clever and catchy "Bad Before Good." With a couple tips of the hat to the bygone master of cinematic teenage drama John Hughes, Cary Brothers pull off an endearing version of Thompson Twins' "If You Were Here" — the tune that punctuated the romantic scenes of 1984's Sixteen Candles. And for those of you who just can't get enough, the soundtrack closes with Simple Minds' "Don't You (Forget About Me), the very same tune which also drew the curtain on Hughes' 1985 pièce de résistance The Breakfast Club.
