Dust

These Austin, Texas post-punks took eight years to follow up their debut album. They've slimmed to a quartet, and their sound has expanded and deepened. The shoegaze elements here have greater resonance, creating dreamlike atmospherics on the slowly emerging “Safely” while turning up the aggression on “Faust” and “Stay Awake.” Singer Christian Goyer exhibits greater range, offering a Band of Horses–type sweetness to the pulsing euphoria of “Come Undone,” while guitarist Ernest Salaz, bassist Edward Robert, and drummer Tim White turn tight and aggressive on “Walk Out” and purely ambient for “You Are Dead to Me.”
