10 Songs, 40 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

The striking second album from this dynamic six-piece does something rare indeed—it synthesizes the tangible personalities of the band’s individual members. From Alex Hwang’s spittle-drenched, tremulous voice and Jennifer Rim’s searching violin to the clever arrangements of drummer John Chong, Drinking from a Salt Pond is a celebratory document of a truly committed collective. Sugary harmonies lift the pop anthem “Can’t Come Down,” and snaking instrumentation threads through the moody “Elam,” while “Anthony” boldly injects snarling attitude into otherwise elegant songcraft.

So excited!!!

I saw these guys live at the Liberty in North Korea Summit the year before last. It was a very intimate setting (maybe 100 people at most, if that) and it was probably the best concert I have ever been to. I met the members afterward and they are all so friendly and humble. Their music is definitely something special. Everything from the lyrics to the composition is always spectacular, and the way they incorporate the numerous instruments they play is so well done. I have been waiting so long for new music from them and now it's finally on its way! (I may have fangirled a bit too much when I saw the Facebook announcement...)
