Take it from someone who was there...

Of the 168 Grateful Dead shows I attended, I've never felt compelled to have these particular ones in my collection, and I have an ENORMOUS collection. Unlike the Summer and Fall, Spring of '89 just wasn't that remarkable, and Pittsburg was barely average at best. Not much inspiration in their playing. Mediocre sound quality. Hell, I even taped these shows with really good equipment and almost never listened to them. There's so many WAY BETTER shows out there to choose from. This offering is cool if you'd simply enjoy a nice walk down memory lane.

Very uneven

Although there are some gems on this, overall it is extremely uneven, and the sound quality in particular on too many cuts is poor-tinny at times, too often sounds like AM radio from the bad old days with no depth. To add insult to injury, several of the better cuts were "album only. To be clear, mixed with some of the disappointing tunes are some terrific numbers (leading me to wonder what exactly might have been going on with the Dead, and/or the recordings, on these two nights. So if you saw these shows or otherwise feel this volume adds something you can't find elsewhere, I guess good luck, but overall it's underwhelming, with many better, and better-sounding, live Dead options available.

Prime Time

'89 stand as one of their best years IMO, this is an excellent example. Great, zippy, dancing fuel...
No rehab needed at this point... if you dont like it... you were either born too early, or too late...
