Dare The Human League
EDITORS’ NOTES
Following the breakup of the original Human League lineup, Philip Oakey took control of the band and transformed their once-abrasive synth-pop into chart-topping hits on Dare. The band’s robotic, stylized rhythms collide with irrefutably catchy tunes on “Love Action (I Believe In Love)” and “Don’t You Want Me,” two of New Wave’s most winning singles. With layers of baroque, buzzing synths, “Darkness” and “Do or Die” delve into the band’s goth side, but the soaring “Open Your Heart” reveals the sensitive soul beneath their mannequin makeup.
