EDITORS’ NOTES

Listening to Paradise Outlaw is like wandering through a lush sonic landscape. “Do You Know,” with guest vocals by Amos Lee, is a standout single, but the album's real highlight is the mood it creates. Brown’s sleepy, sultry vocals float along a supple current of lightly strummed acoustic guitars, the heavily reverbed electric guitar of Bo Ramsey, pedal steel, banjo, piano, strings, and subtle drumming. Brown is a superb songwriter with a distinct lyrical style, and her sixth release shows a heightened level of sophistication and finesse. It’s an intimate and accomplished set with a strong emotional pull.
