!K7’s long-running DJ-Kicks mix series has generally been the place for established legends—or legends in the making—of dance music to show off their one-of-a-kind skills as technicians and selectors. Jayda G—the London-based Canadian producer/DJ born Jayda Guy—uses the platform to do both while drawing a line between the richly orchestrated disco-soul and jazz-funk of the ’80s and the sleek deep house of today. “I wanted to showcase my more eclectic electronic music side,” she tells Apple Music of her mix, which moves from rare gems such as Aged in Harmony’s “You’re a Melody” and Light of the World’s “London Town” to premiering a number of brand-new tracks like DJ BORING’s “Gardenia,” Fred again..’s “Diana (You Don't Even Know),” and LNS’s “Bitumen.” "People may not hear those types of songs in my sets all the time, but they are tracks that I truly love,” she says of the dynamic tracklist. But whether it’s those languid songs that open or the more chugging percussion tunes that take it home, the through line here, not surprisingly, is a groove so wide and deep you could turn a cruise ship around in it.
