12 Songs, 44 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

Though Hands Like Houses started out wearing their progressive chops proudly on their sleeves, the quintet largely downplay them on their third album, focusing instead on a lean hybrid of post-hardcore and hard rock that emphasizes urgency over intricacy. Pivoting deftly between loud and soft dynamics, “Glasshouse” and “I Am” showcase the way Trenton Woodley’s yearning vocals sail across Matt Cooper and Alexander Pearson’s blazing fretwork. On “Degrees of Separation,” when they add atmospheric keys and an aggressive post-punk beat to the mix, the group’s sound gets even more awesome.

Hardcore Ambience

I had a chance to preview the entire album, heres what i thought:
Hardcore Ambience
Its really the only way to describe Hands Like Houses's unique hybrid sound. Their sounds has developed throughout their musical career, and was locked down in Unimagine, which made 6 on the US indie charts. On February 26th, Hands Like Houses releases Dissonants, their most innovative and mature album yet. Having already released 2 singles from it, they've given fans an accurate preview of the face melting groove of Dissonants.

"Colour blind", the second single from Dissonants, demonstrates the true
style of Hands Like Houses, with
crushing breakdowns, grungy drum beats, and heavily soft vocals.
Though the tracks on the album are of the same style, not one sounds
like another. Each track has a unique hook to it, wether its the far-away
drum line in "Degrees of Separation" or the sawing synths in "Glasshouse".
Every song on this record is one that will appeal to any person who enjoys
music, and anyone who doesn't.

Hands Like Houses put out some catchy tunes on Unimagine, but nothing
compared to the tracks on Dissonants. Every song makes you want to sing,
dance, mosh, and stomp to the face melting genius that is Dissonants. Singer
Trenton Woodley really pushes his voice on this album, from screaming to soft,
high melody's, he sings like no other, with a hint of Australian bliss.

HLH is life!

This is going to be the best album of 2016!! I don't care what those mainstream listeners claim to be "good music" next year. The artists who have combined these instruments of sounds and vibrations are truly the musicians here, unlike those other so called "artists" who use funky sounds or rap beats and use this "magical" tool called Autotune to try and make their inharmonious voices sound "better." These other mainstream artists don't give out a positive message. It's always about them and it lacks inspiration or creativity.

I love Hands Like Houses because their lyrics are actually inspirational. They spend time looking for the right words. Their lyrics are poetical and different from the other artists. They accumulate enough creativity in their songs that you actually have to listen, not just hear the music. Listen to the words. Try to decipher them because they contain what should be understood. Anyways, don't want to write (type) a whole essay on here describing my favorite band, it's just they are the best band out there, and they have helped me express my creativity and piece of mind more freely. This will be the best album of 2016. (End of good review)
