More of her in the store, please!

This is a solid CD, but it's not her best. "Accidental Nostalgia" has more charm and more of a narrative through-line running through the album. But if you're not familiar with her yet, this is a good place to get acquainted with her affecting, unadorned vocal style and idiosyncratic lyrics.

Gloria Deluxe unmasked: Cynthia Hopkins

A captivating album built around Japanese folk ballad. Although the music sometimes has an eastern tinge to it, Ms. Hopkins' accordion keeps it more closely tied to European café music than to anything east Asian. The overall effect is dreamlike, moody, and powerful. I recommend it strongly.
