EDITORS’ NOTES

In their 25th year, German electro-industrial steamrollers Rammstein remain der Goldstandard for New German Hardness, with their mix of industrial sternness, techno hedonism, and metal aggression. Their seventh album lands somewhere between Faith No More and Franz Ferdinand, taut grooves meshing with bludgeoning riffs and disturbing stories. Lead single "DEUTSCHLAND" is scabrous, politically volatile doom-disco laying out conflicted feelings about living in their homeland, even tweaking the verse of the national anthem used in the country's fascist past. The rest follows the chug and bombast of albums like 2001's Mutter and 2009's Liebe ist für alle da: "RADIO" is like a heavy metal Kraftwerk, "SEX" is snaky glam-sludge, and "PUPPE" is a creeper with a coming-undone performance from lead singer Till Lindemann.

AMAZING!

I want to fight every douche that gave a 1 star. Losers!

The classic sound is back!

The first single - Deutschland - absolutely nailed it. It is 100% the sound from Herzeleid, Sehnsucht and Mutter all rolled into one song. Also great to see their thought-provoking lyrics are still front and center. Plus the video is absolutely killer. Till also sounds great. The song is controversial but true to form, Rammstein never shies away from that!

Deutschland meibe liebe.

So good to have them back

Deutschland - an epic historical lesson made better by the provocative lyrics, as we'd come to expect when it comes to rammstein

Radio - an ode to the radio, source of freedom from censorship in East Germany
Zeig Dich - a headbanger you won't stop listening to
Auslander - a welcome experiment that leans on Flake's expertize, as tanzmetal as it gets
Sex - country vibes all over this one
Puppe - the range of Till's voice, the horror in a twisted prose, an instant classic
Was ich liebe - grows on you, a calming track after Puppe really
Diamant - not as great as fruhling in paris imo, but it will be on the ballad compilation that I can turn to when I need a quiet hour of rammstein
Weit Weg - not sure how I feel about this one, doesn't really take off
Tattoo - not the strongest lyrically but really enjoyable shift in pace and melody
Hallomann - an interesting melancholic song, but a perfect closer to this album

Take with a grain of salt, I'd love anything Rammstein put out after a 10 year wait, but I'm so glad they did not disappoint once again <3
