Sawyer Brown crossed a major milestone in 2024, when the wildly beloved country band celebrated the 40th anniversary of their self-titled 1984 debut album. (They officially formed in 1981 after serving as the road band for Don King.) Since then, they have amassed an eclectic discography of pop country and, later, more traditionally inspired country music, earning a cult following along the way. Desperado Troubadours comes on the heels of both that anniversary and two retrospective projects: a memoir, The Boys and Me: My Life in the Country Music Supergroup Sawyer Brown, by lead singer Mark Miller, and the documentary film Get Me to the Stage on Time. Highlights on Desperado Troubadour include “Nashville Cat,” a spirited and reference-packed tribute to country culture in Music City, and the title track, which offers a romantic look at the life of a traveling musician.
