This Montreal duo hark back to the austere, abrasively avant-garde days of synthesized post-punk: Cabaret Voltaire, The Normal’s “Warm Leatherette,” and early Human League. Distortions in the title cut and oscillations in “Dépassée par le fantasme” are ominously disorienting, while songs like “Lights Out” echo mid-’80s Chicago acid house and Detroit techno under deadpan French chanting and chirping. Yet there’s a Twin Peaks-like beauty to “La chute,” and on “Facing the Music,” ghost-of-Joy Division goth tones meet an obsessive Eurodisco pulse.
