EDITORS’ NOTES

Skittering, tightly coiled post-punk with plenty of hooks—and just as much heart.

Amazing Band

I just saw them open for Franz Ferdinand in New Haven. They have a sound that at times has echoes of Joy Division and early Talking Heads. Even though you can hear their influences they make a powerful noise that is unique and completely their own. It's rare to hear a newer band that is cliche-free. Each song had a moment that surprised me, either lyrically or in the instrumental texture that compelled me to want to hear the album versions. How often does an opening act make you wish for an encore? These guys did just that.
