DEAD.

DEAD.

Over the course of three albums, Dead Obies have evolved from scrappy rap brawlers to silver-tongued raconteurs. DEAD. finds the Montreal group refining the moody vibes of 2016’s Gesamtkunstwerk with more musicality, bigger hooks, and an irrepressible lyrical curiosity. Throughout the record, VNCE CARTER’s roomy production leaves ample space for MCs Ogee Rodman, Snail Kid, 20SOME, and Joe Rocca to trade rhymes in French, English, and the group's unique mashup of the two. "Run Away" is a piano-tinged dreamscape about squaring up to life that's elevated by a rugged soul chorus. On “Royautés," street rhymes weigh the benefits of riches and loyalty against one another over a murky bass beat. And on album closer "Big Girl," they drop romantic couplets on top of ethereal synthesizers, riding a weightless groove with a liberating sense of abandon.
