Editors’ Notes Handsome Jack are a powerful band from Buffalo, N.Y., blending blues and garage rock and making no excuses for playing rock ’n’ roll the way it was played before hard rock and heavy metal altered the definition. “Creepin’,” with a blues harp leading the way for a fuzzed take on the blues, recalls the early Rolling Stones, the legendary Chesterfield Kings (from Rochester, N.Y.), and even Van Morrison’s Them (“Leave It All Behind”). The group take the greasy parts of soul and boogie and turn them into basic compelling rock, largely due to the seductive shouts of Jamison Passuite and the guitar-organ combo. Excellent songs throughout also help.
