Recorded during the Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere tour, this set finds Neil pushing that album’s extended guitar odysseys—like “Cowgirl in the Sand”—to even stormier depths. But there are also revelatory early versions of future standards, like the jangly “Winterlong” and the cowpoke lament “Wonderin’.” And there’s a raucous rip through the Danny Whitten-sung “Come On Baby Let’s Go Downtown,” a song that became the late guitarist’s memorial when it surfaced posthumously on 1975’s Tonight’s the Night.
