Pick a genre and there’s a pretty good chance Dave Matthews and his band take it on somewhere in their third album. Nominally a jam band, here the much-loved Virginia ensemble confidently stride across categories, incorporating folk, funk, flamenco, jazz, pop, and country. Matthews’ Sting-like vocals cruise smoothly through the eclectic mix, while he showcases the mad skills of violinist Boyd Tinsley on the whirling ride of “Tripping Billies” and the smooth sax of LeRoi Moore on the jazzy “#41.”
