EDITORS’ NOTES
The polar opposite of a sophomore slump, Kid Rock’s second major-label record rocketed the suburban Detroit MC to stardom on the strength of gloriously rude anthems like "Bawitdaba," "I Am the Bullgod," and "Cowboy." His redneck-and-proud attitude (“Not straight outta Compton…straight out the trailer”) was backed by wild collision of classic rock, old-school rap, and Southern-fried funk from his band Twisted Brown Trucker. And between the self-effacing one-liners and fist-pumping heavy metal riffs, Devil Without a Cause didn’t just redefine the possibilities of rap-rock; it made a righteous party.
