Minneapolis native Kenny Broberg took the Silver prize in the 2017 Van Cliburn and this album is comprised of live performances from the competition. An elegant player, Broberg seeks out the inner detail of the music, the way it works and the poetry of the phrasing. In the music of Chopin, Schubert, and Franck, he prizes clarity and sensitivity over barn-storming technical displays—although his Barber Sonata is mightily impressive.
