EDITORS’ NOTES

Havoc is a riveting showcase for Circus Maximus' emotionally complex fusion of progressive metal, power metal, and song-oriented hard rock. Tunefully commanding, vocalist Michael Eriksen soars over sprawling, intricately woven compositions that harness the full might of the band’s heady musicianship. The stirring “After the Fire” opens with pulsing synthesizers before blossoming into searing fret-work, while the dark and foreboding “Highest Bitter” locks onto a smoldering, all-powerful groove. Album closer “Chivalry” is an enthralling ballad that heaves waves over a stormy sea.

Good stuff

Compared to isolate and nine this album is just weak. Every song is forgettable. Seventh Wonder, DGM and Darkwater are my only hopes it seems

Meh...

There is no doubt these guys are extremely talented and the songs have a great structure along with top notch production vales. But for me they have gone down the the wrong road - the pop music road. A few songs have some heavy left, but this a vehicle to show off Michael Erikson's voice and little else. This effort lies somewhere between Def Leppard and Queenrsyche. I was hoping for something else. In an interview after Nine debuted the band said the next album would be much heavier. Nope. I’ll bet the label had a lot on input choosing the songs.

Front runner for album of the year possibly best album in their catalogue

Can't say enough great things about this album. It is amazing from start to finish, and features the most diverse song writing of the band's career. Singer Michael Eriksen possibly delivers his greatest and most well rounded performances; while the rest of the band provides musical depth like very few bands can muster. The album is heavy, melodic, technical, intricate, soaring, catchy. In other words everything you want from a progressive metal album. This record is possibly the best in this great band's catalogue which is really saying something.
