12 Songs, 45 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

P.O.S plays guitar in indie bands when he’s not rapping, and his fifth solo album has a sludgy post-punk aesthetic that crowds his strangled voice and urgent rhymes with noisy, unpredictable beats. But on the second half of Chill, dummy, the clouds part with producer Cory Grindberg’s ethereal synth work on “Thieves/Kings” and “Gravedigger.” And P.O.S’s anxious, thoughtful lyrics are never better than on “Infinite Scroll,” a lucid, acerbic take on Internet addiction.

Parental Advisory: Explicit Lyrics.
