12 Songs, 46 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

Going into her seventh album, Sia Furler wanted to try “an experiment.” She would record self-written tracks already pitched to—but overlooked by—A-listers. “I feel like they’re hits, but nobody wanted them,” she said. She was right. This Is Acting dives headfirst into pop’s waters, but its bold and beguiling songs retain their author’s earthy edge. Sia’s cathartic voice is, as usual, the star—“Alive” and “House on Fire” pulverize all before them, the big-night-out anthem “Cheap Thrills” is a ton of fun, and “Reaper” (a Kanye West cowrite) is the sort of midtempo empowerment jam only she can nail so triumphantly.

So happy For Sia

This is going to be an amazing album. From such a great songwriter." Alive" chills me to the bone. Then "Bird set free" gives me the strength to carry on. Also happy for Sia to be writing again and singing her music the way it's supposed to be sung ❤️

I love sia’s songwriting

I will always love Sia’s songwriting but it's like you can almost tell why all of these songs were rejected. Birds Set Free is Eye of the Needle mixed with Dressed in Black, and Alive, tries to recapture the big chorus of Chandelier, i do love the chord progression on Alive though. Is it possible for sia to make a “commercial 2016 pop record” but also have some of the indie charm that made her music pre chandelier so appealing? I miss the days when I could listen to the Sia that did “Soon We’ll Be Found” “ Death by Chocolate” “Where I Belong” “Clap Your Hands” “I’m in Here” and Breathe Me”. Maybe one day we’ll get a more indie record, I’ll always be listening regardless of if we do or don’t.

Best Sia Album

This is by far my favorite album of Sia's. The songs are so powerful and it's hard to believe no one wanted to sing them. Sia truly brings it in a spectacular way with this album!
