4 Songs, 15 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

ZHU subtly switches up his sound on this four-track follow-up to 2017’s “Intoxicate.” He comes across as heavier, for one thing: “Dreams,” with Nero, is a pummeling slab of gothed-out, slow-motion techno, while “Exhale” brandishes the horn fanfare and rattling hi-hats of the toughest trap. Throughout the EP, echoing falsetto calls back to the sensual vibe of “Faded,” his breakout hit, but the deep-house beats are long gone. “Chasing Marrakech,” the EP’s most daring cut, is a moody, mysterious fusion of harp, dancehall, and hot jazz.
