12 Songs, 42 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

For her eighth album, Mann stays true to dreamy form, her knack for writing hooky songs balanced by her astute observations and whimsical storytelling. But it wouldn't be a Mann LP without a healthy dose of cynicism. On “Labrador,” her dog Maisie is a metaphor for life’s takers, while “Living a Lie”—a subtly orchestrated duet with The Shins’ James Mercer—is sardonic and hopeful in equal measure. And the title track finds Mann at her witty best, complete with New Wave synths and peppy guitars.

Dont Clean Up For Me

I echo the other reviewer who asked about the 'clean lyrics' tag. I deeply resent censorship, and I hope this doesn't mean you sold me the wrong product, motherf____ers. What I want to buy is whatever Aimee intended.

It's Not Censored: "There is only the one version." - @aimeemann, Twitter Sept 23, 2012

Aimee Mann herself (@aimeemann) tweeted yesterday in response to fan concerns about the "clean" version being the only one available on iTunes.

This is not a cleaned or censored version of the album. This is the original and only version of the album. So, feel free of corporate oppression and buy it! You will love it.

Clean? I want Aimee uncensored!

I refuse to buy an album with 'cleaned' up lyrics - if you're going to censor something, you ought to at least have the decency to offer the real deal for those of us who care
