Editors’ Notes This live set finds two generations of amazing alto sax players teaming up for a furious blowing session of bop standards. The performance would be one of Woods’ last; he passed away before the record’s release. But hearing the pair’s lines wrap around each other, whether on a madly swinging “I’ll Remember April” or the melancholy ballad “Willow Weep for Me,” is like watching two world-class dancers glide across the floor together. Meanwhile, Tim Ray’s virtuosic piano work propels them at every turn.
