As befits its title, Tenth Avenue North’s fourth studio album is a grandly conceived work built upon soaring melodic lines and embellished with expansive production. Cathedrals especially stands out for the spiritual depth of its lyrics; tracks like “No Man Is an Island,” “Heaven’s Sound,” and “We Won’t Numb the Pain” go beyond feel-good sentiments to probe the dark nights of every believer’s soul. Mike Donehey rises to the occasion with heroic yet vulnerable vocals, shining most brightly on the ballad “All the Earth Is Holy Ground.” From first track to last, TAN doesn’t skimp on substance while delivering ear-catching pop/rock.
