15 Songs, 1 Hour 14 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

Opening with a rebellious cry of "F**k the world!" Machine Head's mercurial ninth album addresses everything from the rise of racism in America ("Volatile," "Bastards") and the 15th-century political intrigues of Louis XI ("Heavy Lies the Crown") to guitarist/vocalist Robb Flynn's own previous career as a speed dealer ("Triple Beam"). Written in the language of hip-hop and embracing musical styles as varied as rap-rock, pop-punk, and nu-metal, Catharsis is one of the most polarizing records of Machine Head's 25-year-plus career.

Parental Advisory: Explicit Lyrics. Apple Digital Master

So disappointing

Nothing that hasn’t been said by anyone else. The entire record being overtly political is the least of its problems. It’s boring. It’s poorly written. The lyrics sound like an angry 13 year old wrote them. So cringey that it reminds me of the song “Whose Life (Is It Anyways?)” by Megadeth. Really hard to listen to. But it’s almost the whole album.

Save yourself and don’t listen to Triple Beam. Who in their right mind would include that besides as a joke bonus track?!

Overall, it just sounds like a 50 year old throwing a temper tantrum as though he was in middle school and hates the captain of the football team.

Cheesy

It simply can not get any cheesier than this. They need to get back to their roots but unfortunately that is highly unlikely to happen. It seems he's more concerned with being a SJW than putting out good tunes.
