Editors’ Notes Maybe the most underrated vocalist of the late ’50s/early ’60s, Philly idol Rydell was second only to Dion and Darin in his ability to sing and swing. The triumvirate of “Volare,” “Sway,” and “That Old Black Magic” attest to the latter, while hits like “Wild One” and “Swingin’ School” are the epitome of joyous, pre-Beatle teen rock. “Good Time Baby” and the raucous party invitation “Third House (in From the Right)” bounce and drive relentlessly. Less intense but melodically strong, Rydell’s final hits, “Forget Him” and “I’ll Never Dance Again,” reveal his ease with subtler, more demanding material.
