As one of the 21st century's most successful bands to date, Snow Patrol has seen two greatest-hits albums released within just a few years of one another. But where Up to Now was an extensive look at Snow Patrol that also included new tracks, b-sides, and rarities, Greatest Hits is exactly that. The only "new" track here is the in-demand single "The Lightning Strike (What If This Storm Ends?)," a newly edited version of a 16-minute song from the album A Hundred Million Suns that was used in the film trailers for Act of Valor and Epic. The remaining songs are all ones that casual fans will want to own. "Chasing Cars," "Run," "Set the Fire to the Third Bar" with Martha Wainwright, and "Make This Go on Forever" are among the best pop songs of the past decade. If one needed a single album to make the case for this Northern Irish group, which made its alternative sound part of the mainstream, this is the quickest way to understand Snow Patrol's appeal.
