42 Songs, 1 Hour

EDITORS’ NOTES

Laden with sound bites of inimitable movie dialogue and pieces of John Swihart's score, this album also offers the movie's smart choice of pop tunes. The '80s synth-pop tracks (Alphaville's "Forever Young," Yaz's "Only You," " When in Rome's "The Promise") underline Napoleon's yearning qualities, and fans will undoubtedly want to own the backdrop to their hero's dance triumph, Jamiroquai's "Canned Heat."

Pass this Album if you are buying it for The Promise

I bought the whole soundtrack for the song The Promise. The Promise is an excellent song but it is mixed with Suprise Alternate Ending dialog from the movie which ruins the song. Go out and buy the CD that has the song without the soundtrack.

I Like Your Sleeves...They're Real Big

Napoleon Dynamite was definitely one of the funnier movies I've seen. With that great, sarcastic protagonist and endless repeatable quotes, the movie proved to be a huge smash. But, there are two types of people who view this movie. People who love it and people who hate it. This soundtrack is STRICTLY for people who loved the movie. Those who truly believe this movie had absolutely no point and it was not funny at all should really just move on to a different soundtrack.

First of all, you've got to realize that John Swihart's music on this soundtrack is supposed to be simple and cheesy. It's supposed to sound like it was made out of the cheapest music sets of all time. And Swihart's music fit the movie perfectly. So, while it's not the most fun to listen to, imagine Napoleon on a bicycle dragging Kip on a cart all through their suburbian home and you'll love it.

What's really to go crazy about are the quotes. This soundtrack includes most of the quotes which you've probably repeated about 100 times to your friends. And, in addition to that, more awesome quotes not featured in the movie are here. The best being "Ninja Moves". Seriously, you won't regret buying this soundtrack just for those awesome quotes.

The other songs from the movie are also included on the soundtrack. Sure, a few are missing, like the first song, the White Stripes' "We're Gonna Be Friends". Personally, I think it shoud've been included here, but whatever. The slow dance song, Alphaville's "Forever Young" is good, but at first I thought it was William Hung singing. Youth Group's version of the song on the O.C. is much better. Sparklemotion's cover of "Time After Time" is OK. Jamiroquai's "Canned Heat" is probably what everyone is looking for, however. This was the song everyone probably remembers from the movie. Napoleon's dance performance was to this song. It's a very good song. Quite funky. I think the best of all the real songs on this album however was the credits song - "The Promise" by When In Rome. It's a beautiful song, maybe a little different than the rest of the movie, but it's a very good song. Also, at the end, you're treated to Kip's hilarious "I Love Technology" song.

So, overall, Napoleon Dynamite Haters should run away fast, but devoted fans of the movie should cough up the cash to buy this 'sweet' soundtrack. Including hilarious quotes and awesome songs, this soundtrack proves to be a perfect addition to every Napoleon fan's collection. GOSH!
