Editors’ Notes The Anaheim rapper is a hopeless romantic—emphasis on “hopeless.” On his third album (and his first as an independent artist after getting out of a two-year major-label deal), love seems to be constantly slipping out of Phora’s hands, and that’s the least of his problems: The somber “The Dream” relays a nightmare he’s been having since getting shot in 2015, where he moves through the world like a ghost. It’s the wallowy palette of Drake mixed with the angst of Trippie Redd-esque emo rap, though the mid-album reggaetón slow-winder “Te Necesito” switches up the mood for a moment.
