At just 18 years old, Mary Sarah has shared the studio with the biggest names in classic country. This album, produced by Sarah’s mentor Freddy Powers, includes Powers and 11 stars, mostly singing their signature songs. Whether she's joining Dolly Parton on “Jolene,” Willie Nelson on “Crazy” (the hit he wrote for Patsy Cline), or with a struggling-voiced Merle Haggard on the reactionary but emotive “Fightin’ Side of Me” from the Vietnam era, Sarah brings a genuine love for the melodies to everything she sings. “Dream On” with The Oak Ridge Boys features a few odd production decisions, and Neil Sedaka’s “Where the Boys Are” doesn’t quite qualify as country, but it’s all meant to best showcase this young lady’s range and talents. The best results come when she is given the most room to roam. Only on Brenda Lee’s “I’m Sorry” is Mary Sarah left to carry the entire weight—and it’s clear she could have a decent career if her classic country/retro-pop sound ever catches on with the kids (and/or adults).
