14 Songs, 58 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

He’s a pop singer, Broadway thespian, and sitcom star. With Bridges, Josh Groban confirms his musical ambassador status. It feels like his eighth studio album was intended to invite the whole world in during divisive times. The opening trio of songs are pure Groban—a reassuring pick-me-up, a heartfelt love letter to someone far away, and a moment of reflection. Then Bridges really starts to cook. He shows his versatility and facility with other languages on the delightful French and Spanish songs “Musica del Corazon” and “S’il suffisait d’aimer.” The cultural exchange continues with country star Jennifer Nettles joining Groban on the pretty ballad “99 Years.” His Canadian sister-from-another-mister Sarah McLachlan drops in for a breath-stealing duet, “Run.” And just when you think your heart is about to burst, Andrea Bocelli appears for a mic-dropping collaboration, “We Will Meet Once Again.” Groban does it all with genuine charm and sophistication.

Beautiful duets

The duets are beautiful. I can’t stop listening to “Run”. The album is a bit of a mish-mosh though, with “99 Years” sounding a bit country, and the covers of “She’s Always A Woman” and “Bridge Over Troubled Water”, and “Run” being more a pop ballad, then there’s a duet with Andrea Bocelli? I have to skip around past some amazing songs because when a I’m in the mood for a certain genre, say pop ballads, I don’t want something more classical sounding dropped on me. That’s my only criticism of this. Josh Groban could sing the iTunes user agreement and it would be spectacular.

Knocked it outta the park!

In almost every song, his heart is transparent. His soul is exposed. This is honestly, his best album to date.

Bridges

Josh Groban just sang “Granted”” from his new album Bridges. He was on good morning America this morning, July 2. The words are incredible! If we could live those words, wow, what a life we would have! Also, of course, his voice and the music are great!
