Born on this day

I came across a deer tick song while listening to my shovels and rope station on pandora. Loved the sound, and was curious to hear more. I started exploring their music and came across this album, and it just so happens that i was actually born on flag day. So I thought why the f$&@ not, and bought the album. Since than I have not stopped listening to them. The sound is unique, the lyrics have substance, and it's exactly what I crave in music, which is a somewhat hybrid of outlaw country, alternative, and rock. Though my description of the sound is probably far from being accurate. This is hands down a must listen if you enjoy the growing genre of alternative Texas Country.

This album is amazing

This album is real music, and it is amazing. Smith Hill and Hell on Earth are my favorites currently.

Excellent

I checked Deer Tick out after reading a review that mentioned a Replacements influence (yeah, it is there for sure--check out Main Street, a definite nod to Westerberg and the band). There are traces of Creedence too, and others. But what a band---they can hold their own. Lyrics are clever and simultaneously tap into humor and angst. They have impressive range, and Born on Flag Day displays it. Smith Hill is a knockout, almost an anthem about letting love slip away, without being hokey or whining. The album as a whole is solid, as is War Elephant, their debut album. These guys are highly recommended.
