Great album

Surprising that no one has reviewed this yet. This was my intro to Nanci Griffith and since then I've acquired all of her albums. If you like Nanci Griffith, you probably like some of the artists she covers on this disc. All the tracks are great, Across The Great Divide and Tecumseh Valley stand out (not surprising considering who wrote them - Kate Wolf and Townes). Good production, great songs, great musicians...well worth the rice of admission.

5 Stars= Not hyperbole

I'm usually loathe to give an album 5 stars...but out of my large collection of music, this one ranks easily in the top 10-15 albums.
For anyone who is a fan of American folk music, your collection simply isn't complete without this album. It's simply excellent.
The sound is unpretentious, (as folk music should be)...and despite the number of high profile guests, the album remains completely Nanci Griffith's. She makes the songs her own and turns in one of the best albums of her career. The instrumentation is tasteful, restrained and played with precision. Her takes on Across the Great Divide, Tecumseh Valley, and Boots of Spanish Leather stand practically on par with the originals, and her "Morning Song for Sally" is simply devastating (in a good way). If you like this kind of music, it would be a mistake not to get this.
