12 Songs, 46 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

Maxwell spent years searching for the perfect sound in his head. blackSUMMERS'night shows the wait was worth it. Silky ribbons of organic R&B flutter out the speakers. Dark synths on “Hostage” and “The Fall” shows Maxwell moving with the times yet sounding positively timeless.

But patiently expected more. 1900X is the only thing that has my attention. I hope NIGHTS will be better!

Meh

We waited so long. Gods and Lake by the Ocean are stand outs. The rest sound like filler. This album aside from standouts almost doesnt sound like Maxwell. So bummed...

A Huge Disappointment

I'm all for an artist changing his style to remain relevant but the music doesn't compliment his voice at all. He should have sung in octave lower for most of the songs. The lyrics were not well thought out he seem to have regressed in this area. Three songs made my list Lake by the Ocean, 1990X and Hostage. These songs are 7 out of a possible 10 which isn't saying much but at least I can listen these songs without wincing.
