Editors’ Notes For years, Love's powerful lost album from 1973—recorded by an all-black lineup of the band that frontman Arthur Lee assembled—circulated only on poor-sounding bootlegs. As a result, the complex psychedelic-funk edges of the Hendrix-like “Midnight Sun” and Lee's sweet, soulful vocals on “Can’t Find It” were blunted until this proper release. It's loud. It's funky. And when Melvan Whittington’s riveting lead guitar bleeds into Lee’s frustration over police violence on the glam rock-styled “Lonely Pigs,” it's moving. Times got hard; Lee kicked back harder.
