Between the Lines Mike Moreno

There are hints of inheritance here - that rich, vocal quality of Metheny's and Abercrombie's work on acoustic steel string- but Moreno is no parrot. Give a listen to the propulsive "Road Song", its unresolved "just over the next hill" attitude, and the majestic "Still Here", its patient tactility. "Gondola", too stood out, Moreno's pensive, swirling hesitation. You can hear him thinking with the instrument, telling a story, not just blowing.

Mike Moreno is one of the next up and coming major players in contemporary jazz. This CD illustrates an advanced concept of composition and a fierce improvisational talent. His technique is unique and astounding but while remaining tasteful. All the players on this CD are great; creating a beautiful backdrop for Moreno's soloing.
