Beggars Banquet The Rolling Stones
EDITORS’ NOTES
Working with their new producer, Jimmy Miller, The Rolling Stones moved away from their ‘60s pop style and into what’s considered their classic album-oriented era on Beggars Banquet. The samba-influenced epic “Sympathy for the Devil” evokes ancient spirits, while acoustic-based tunes like the heart-wrenching “No Expectations,” the country-fied “Dear Doctor,” and the straight blues of “Prodigal Son” illustrate how British musicians often celebrated American music with more passion and ingenuity than their American counterparts. For extra measure, the rockers—“Street Fighting Man,” “Stray Cat Blues”—go for the jugular.
